![]() ![]() It’s certainly plausible to say Tails canonically never tried to fly during the events of that game (if it even takes place before Sonic 2 anymore). This piggybacks off of what I said in another comment about Origins being more towards new fans than veterans - all they have to know is who the characters are and how their relationship with each other started, and I guess that’s all that needs to be said.Īnd as for the bit about Sonic having Tails learn to use his tails to fly even though he could in Tails Adventure - the original origin for Tails written by SoA’s president to convince SoJ to use the Tails name had that happen as well. S1’s intro establishes Sonic’s abilities, personality, and rivalry with Eggman (who is established as kidnapping animals), CD’s intro establishes Amy as someone who believes in fortune-telling and loves Sonic, S2’s intro establishes Tails as a bullying victim before he met Sonic and changed his opinion about his tails, and 3&K’s intro establishes Knuckles as the responsible, yet gullible, guardian of the Master Emerald. I mean, like I said, I agree about the 3&K intro making Eggman look like an idiot, but I thought about it and realized that in a sense, the intros are meant to provide a brief intro to the major characters introduced in each title. Guess he needs everything to “make sense” to him. I just found that guy I was talking about in the post, and he made a thread summarizing why he hates the cutscenes. I can’t complain about what’s actually there, and if anyone does, I think they’re nitpicking too much about a piece of the franchise that always had a lot of room for interpretation from the get-go. I just think they could have managed what they had available to them a bit better. I can't complain about what's actually there, and if anyone does, I think they're nitpicking too much about a piece of the franchise that always had a lot of room for interpretation from the get-go. ![]() Those cinematics could have instead been used to fill in more of 3&K's gaps, particularly in cementing Knuckles and Eggman's falling out after the game's halfway point. arguably Metal Sonic who was never actually included, weirdly enough, it's not like there was a whole lot of clarification that was needed. CD especially already has animated cutscenes so beyond introducing Amy and. ![]() The final cutscenes of both 1 and CD could have been scrapped, with their important parts being incorporated into the openings of CD and 2 respectively. Despite needing it the most, 3&K gets the shortest end of the stick. hell, it's technically two games as is, and yet only one of its cutscenes is actually plot-relevant while the final one is an insignificant post-credits gag that could have been thrown into any game. Rather than a rigid two-cutscenes-per-game rule, I think they could have afforded to give 3&K more love since it's the most story-driven game by far. The Sonic 2 and CD cutscenes are great if only to better cement the characters of Tails and Amy, but 3&K is where I think there's room for improvement. Gotta leave room open in case they decide to incorporate Tom Wachowski into game!Sonic's history after all. I don't think it makes a difference whether Sonic or Eggman knew each other prior to the first game, but even so, the actual Origins cutscenes leave that ambiguous and they can always decide later on if they had history beforehand. It's all arbitrary, so as long as we know they happened, I'm satisfied. It's not like there are any essential moving pieces prior to 3&K that would make, say, Chaos or SegaSonic impossible to implement after the fact. I don't mind the idea that every non-mainline Classic game (Mania aside) takes place in one large clump between 3&K and 4. I also still like it better if Sonic and Eggman had past history before Sonic 1, despite what this BumbleKast says. I think my only real problem is that I agree with this one guy on Twitter who despises the cutscenes that 3&K’s intro made Eggman come off as a bit of an idiot (if he knew where the Master Emerald was, why didn’t he take it sooner?). They’re well-made, they’re a neat touch, and they add some now context (though I would like a few more added to add some more context). I mean, personally I’m fine with the cutscenes. So I thought I’d ask how you guys feel about this. The Game Gear games, Spinball, 3D Blast, Sonic R, even SegaSonic now take place after 3&K. And according to this BumbleKast, the cutscenes are now the canon way these events transpired, and is the very beginning of the timeline. As I’m sure we’re aware of by now, the new cutscenes in Sonic Origins are simplified accounts of each games’ manuals, with some new context added.
